Smelly Bait

Reading and Writing and Doing
Higgins Bend Song and Dance

Writing a List
After reading Higgins Bend Song and Dance we discussed what types of things would make smelly bait. I asked each of my first grade students to generate a list of things they might like to use to make "smelly bait."

Making fish
Using large sheets of paper, each student cut out two identically shaped fish. Using crayons and paints the fish shapes were given color, scales, and other details. Once the fish shapes were completed the two sides were stapled together -- one side was left open. The opening was used to put in stuffing and the opening stapled shut. For the stuffing use shredded paper, crumpled newspaper, or other suitable materials.
